Low-key birthday bash for Suri Cruise

On April 18, 2008, Suri Cruise, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ adorable toddler, turned 2 years old. Instead of throwing a celebrity-studded birthday bash the paparazzi can easily feast on, the couple opted to give their daughter a more exclusive celebration with only about 24 of their immediate family and closest friends as guests.

Absolutely no celebrities were invited for the daytime party.

Held at a private property in Hollywood Hills, the party’s theme was butterflies, a favorite of the birthday girl.

The place was decorated with all the things that Suri loved. Fresh flowers worth $17,000 practically covered the party area. Suri also had fun with all the colorful balloons scattered all over the place.

One of the highlights of the exclusive party was a big coloring area where guests wrote their birthday wishes for Suri. They also had fun coloring on a big card for the birthday princess.

A 4-tiered polka dot and butterfly-decorated chocolate and vanilla cake, especially made by Los Angeles bakery Sweet Lady Jane, was the center of attraction. Each of the guests, including 15-year old Isabella and 13-year old Connor, Tom’s adopted children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, were given a personalized Italian-flavored (minus the rum, of course!) cake.

Tom also ordered cupcakes worth $230 from Sprinkles, a bakery that Katie favors.

Guests enjoyed listening to music, playing games, and dancing. The family had fun bowling after the party ended.

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck served his sumptuous masterpieces for Suri’s birthday bash. Later in the day, he also whipped up his fabulous culinary creations for a party Tom threw for good friends David and Victoria Beckham, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Eva Longoria-Parker.

Also present at Suri’s birthday celebration were Tom’s mother and sisters, and Katie’s parents, Kathy and Martin Holmes, who flew in from Ohio.

Although the party was definitely exclusively for family and close friends, Tom and Katie reportedly spent a whopping $100,000 for their little princess’ 2nd birthday bash! But then since Suri and her guests had a grand time, everything was well worth it!

Tom and Katie Cruise’s exclusive Italian wedding party

In a stunning off-shoulder Armani gown, Katie Holmes walked down the aisle of the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy where she married Mission Impossible superstar Tom Cruise in November 2006. Katie, who was escorted by her father Martin, looked fabulous in her Swarovski beaded gown. Tom, on the other hand, was dashing in his navy blue Giorgio Armani tuxedo. The couple’s 7-month old daughter, Suri, wore an organza and chiffon Armani baby dress which, according to the famous designer, was inspired by Katie’s bridal gown.

The wedding entourage included Tom’s adopted children, Isabella and Connor, plus the Church of Scientology’s big man David Miscavige who was Best Man, and Katie’s Matron of Honor, her sister Nancy Blaylock. It was a romantic candlelit ceremony.

Despite the rain that poured earlier, selected celebrities and friends celebrated the meaningful event with the newlyweds and their families. At the reception, where Katie changed into another Armani creation (a beautiful champagne evening gown), guests enjoyed cocktails before being served Italian hors d’oeuvres and a sumptuous multi-course meal.

One of the party’s attractions was the couple’s five-tiered chocolate wedding cake which was elaborately decorated with marzipan roses and white chocolate chips.

Will and Jada Smith, one of the couple’s closest friends, were present to celebrate the joyous occasion. Other A-list celebrity guests were Victoria Beckham, Brooke Shields and husband Chris Henchy, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, and Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy.

When the song “What a Wonderful World” was played, Katie danced with her father and by the time Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird” was playing, Katie was already swaying in the arms of her husband.

Tom and Katie, Will and Jada’s Beckham welcome party

Good friends Tom Cruise and Will Smith, together with their wives Katie Holmes and Jada Pinkett, were among the first to welcome British soccer sensation David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, to Los Angeles. The Cruises and the Smiths threw a welcoming party for the couple at The Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MOCA) The Geffen Contemporary last July 22, 2007.

The star-studded gala exclusive party was attended by some of Hollywood’s bigshots. Brooke Shields arrived at the party with husband Chris Henchy while newlywed Eva Longoria-Parker went to the party minus husband Tony. Other couples who joined the celebration were Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, former Spice Girl Melanie Brown and husband Stephen Belafonte, Alyson Hannigan and husband Alexis Dennisof, and Jim Caviezel and wife Kerri. Popular celebrities Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Quincy Jones, Wesley Snipes and Bruce Willis also showed up to welcome the newest player of L.A. Galaxy.

Wearing a red James Galanos gown, Katie flew in from Germany with Tom, where shooting for Valkyrie was ongoing. They drove to the party with Will and Jada where they gamely posed for pictures together with their guests of honor.

Guests enjoyed a menu of British cuisine (bangers and mash, or sausages and mashed potatoes) and American staples (burgers, fries, and salad). The Beckhams, Smiths, and Cruises had the time of their lives in the dance floor as the DJ spun one hot tune after another.

Since the Beckhams arrived in L.A., they have become good friends with the Cruises and the Smiths and are in fact, often seen enjoying dinners with them. Tom and Katie recently held a similar exclusive gathering of friends when they had a housewarming party for their new house in May of this year.
