A Quick Recap of the Bruno Premiere After Party

The premiere after party of the comedy movie Bruno was definitely a night to remember as there were many celebrities who attended the event in their most fashionable suits and cocktail dresses.

The guests were composed of the funniest figures in entertainment, like David Arquette, who was with his wife and former F.R.I.E.N.D.S. star, Courtney Cox-Arquette. Jonah Hill, one of the associate producers of Bruno, Matt Stone, creator of the hit adult cartoon show South Park, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg and Christopher Mintz-Plasse also made their presence felt. Former Guns ‘n Roses guitar player Slash Hudson, actor Gary Shandling and Borat’s Ed Helms and Ken Davitian attended the party as well. The homecoming king and host of the event was none other than the man behind Bruno and Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen, who was with his fiancé and “Confessions of a Shopaholic” star Isla Fisher.

Although some of the guests were in cocktail dresses and suits, it was largely a dress down event. The man of the hour, Sacha Baron Cohen, wore a blazer and a baseball cap while Andy Samberg was in a hipster flannel. Ed Helms was dressed in a sweater and Matt Stone was only wearing shirt and jeans.

The party was surrounded by the sounds of the late legendary King of Pop Michael Jackson, with the DJ spinning “I Want You Back” and “PYT”, but it was the song “Wanna Be Starting Something” that made the guest rush down to the dance floor.

And of course, the food served was simply delicious. There were sushi in cups, a hotdog bar with a large selection of mustard, a big bowl of sauerkraut and chocolate mousse pies. These finger foods were then matched with the usual beer and cocktails that were poured endlessly for all the guests.

Vogue’s September issue premiere

In the end, the Devil does indeed wear Prada.

Clothed in Prada Cruise, American Vogue’s deified editor-in-chief Anna Wintour heralded the premiere of The September Issue with close friends and VIPs. The long-gestating documentary played August 19 at an invitations-only screening party hosted by Wintour in New York City.

Moviegoers were a roll call of fashion overlords. Designers Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Jack McCollough, Jason Wu, Lazaro Hernandez, Richard Chai, Georgina Chapman, Zac Posen and Thakoon Panichgul all made sure to attend, lest they enrage fashion’s legendary “Nuclear Wintour.”

Insiders considered the screening party one of the most important dates for fashion in 2009. After all, the R.J. Cutler-directed documentary is a voyeuristic chronicle of Vogue’s September 2007 edition, one of the thickest magazine issues of all time.

A flood of people vied for a ticket to the premiere, which included a private dinner with the Vogue editrix herself. Despite the limited invites, folding chairs had to be hauled in the venue at the Museum of Modern Art for extraneous viewers.

Wintour accorded the September 2007 cover girl her seat of honor at the screening party. Sienna Miller, who graced the cover in a now-iconic shot by Mario Testino, calmly sat front-row as Wintour impaled her onscreen with icy putdowns.

Indeed, this is the film where Wintour famously dismissed Miller as being “too toothy” for Vogue.

If there were any acrimony between the two, nothing of the sort was seen at the premiere. Arriving with daughter Bee Shaffer, Wintour closely accompanied Miller on the red carpet, the actress clad in a sky-blue mini-dress by Thakoon.

Renée Zellweger, who was also a Vogue cover girl, was included in Wintour’s guest list, along with P. Diddy, Cassie, and Alexa Chung. Models Karlie Kloss, Chanel Iman and Caroline Trentini also came.

Not to be missed at the party were Wintour’s famous Vogue subordinates, Andre Leon Talley and Grace Coddington.

Stars at the AMA’s

Country superstar Taylor Swift, 19, and the late King of Pop Michael Jackson were among the big winners at Sunday night’s American Music Awards.

Swift won five awards including Artist of the Year, while Jackson was honored with four. Swift walked away with Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.

Jackson was named Favorite Male Artist.

7th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party

Future movie megastars and pop icons bonded together for Teen Vogue’s 7th Annual Young Hollywood Party at the Milk Studios in Los Angeles.

No one in attendance at the Sept. 25 soiree was more successful than Nicole Kidman or Britney Spears. But the promise and vigor of youth was clearly on their side. On that evening, 400 precocious faces from film, TV, music and fashion congregated for a night of music and margaritas.

Supervised by Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley, the starlet-studded crowd included a few superstar seeds or so. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ youngest daughter Tallulah Belle was there. So was Kelly Osbourne, who came with model-boyfriend Luke Worrall.

No Young Hollywood Party would be complete without Disney Channel celebrities. The bash was attended by High School Musical alumna Ashley Tisdale and Wizards of Waverly Place’s Selena Gomez. In the same way, Miranda Cosgrove held Nickelodeon’s banner high.

Leighton Meester and Blake Lively weren’t around but their 90210 counterparts AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup and Jessica Lowndes came in full force. “Leavin’” singer Jesse McCartney also attended.

Like last year, the 7th Young Hollywood Party vaunted a Twilight actor. Fresh from shooting Eclipse in Canada, Taylor Lautner became one of the party’s strongest chick magnets, attracting the likes of Kiki Palmer and Lily Collins. Even the party’s pretty models were glued to the onscreen werewolf.

Those models were more or less part of the D&G entourage, which sparked off the party with a fashion show. After their show, the Noisettes invaded the stage and put such names as Aly Michalka, Andrea Bowen, Asher Brook, Ashley Benson, Bobby Campo, Brittany Curran, Camille Winbush, Sterling Knight, Taylor Spreitler, Teresa Palmer, Tyler James Williams, Vanessa Lengies, Victoria Justice, Willa Holland, and Zoe Myers on the dancefloor.

2008 Teen Choice Awards pre-party

There is more to the 2008 Teen Choice Awards than meets the eye. A day before the ceremonies at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal Studios, the show’s pre-party honored a less-than-famous set.

On August 2, 2008, Tinseltown’s teen circuit took a backseat to far more obscure contemporaries in the Do Something Awards Pre-Party for Teen Choice. Formerly called the BR!CK Awards, the Do Something Awards, which is older than the show itself, has recognized young non-celebrities who have made a difference in their communities.

“Too Little Too Late” singer JoJo hosted the plush pre-party, which named the awards’ nine nominees. As determined by voting on the Internet, these do-gooders took home $10,000 for their efforts. The nominees, who were no older than 25, included 16-year old Dallas Jessup, a martial artist teaching self-defense to girls; and 18-year old Zander Srodes, who works for the conservation of sea turtles.

At the pre-party venue, Hollywood hotspot Level 3, the youngsters got to rub elbows with The Hills starlets Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth, former ‘N Sync member JC Chasez, House’s Olivia Wilde, Saved by the Bell’s Elizabeth Berkeley, girl band Danity Kane, and Cole and Dylan Sprouse from The Suite Life. The youngsters also watched Lil’ Mama, Jesse McCartney, Varsity Fan Club, and some of America’s Best Dance Crews perform.

During the Teen Choice Award ceremonies, actress Scarlett Johansson awarded 19-year old Chad Bullock with a Teen Choice surfboard and $100,000 in grant.

Chad Bullock hails from Durham, North Carolina. Since his grandfather died of a smoking-related disease, Bullock has vowed to discourage Americans from smoking. At one point, he mobilized 15,000 youngsters to rid Durham Bulls Athletic Park of smokers.

Pre-party attendee and TV Female Reality Star awardee Lauren Conrad she gave her award to Pat Pedraja, a nominee battling leukemia. She also stocked an iPod Touch with her favorite songs and gave the gadget to Pedraja.

Pedraja talked to Conrad during the pre-party. The teenager was nominated for his work driving across the US in search of bone marrow donors.

Around 32 million votes were cast in this year’s Teen Choice Awards, the bulk of which went to the sensational Jonas Brothers, Disney pop princess Miley Cyrus, and risqué teen soap Gossip Girl.

Sir Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball

On June 26, 2008, the stars paraded into Elton John’s £20 million country home in Old Windsor, Berkshire for the singer/musician’s annual White Tie and Tiara Ball. Dubbed as one of the most sought-after party and social event, the ball was strictly for those who were invited only.

Security was heavy as some of the country’s biggest personalities arrived to party with the knighted singer. As soon as the guests stepped out of their vehicles, cameras began clicking. Some of the guests who enjoyed Sir Elton John’s extravagant party were supermodel Elle MacPherson, Sir Michael Caine, Rod Steward and wife Penny Lancaster with their daughters Ruby and Kimberley. The gorgeous Liz Hurley, wearing a white diamond tiara, arrived with her husband Arun Nayar. Former President Bill Clinton was also in attendance while Gordon Ramsay was with wife Tana. Adorable Hollywood couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith lent their support to Sir Elton John by joining in the £3,000 per head ball.

Other guests who sashayed in their elegant and stunning gowns and tuxedos to party with the award winning and highly talented singer include Hollywood actress Mischa Barton, tennis great Roger Federer, Kelly Osbourne, American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent’s Simon Cowell, Denzel Washington, Natalie Imbruglia, and Richard Desmond, owner of Northern and Shell plc.

The guests of Elton John’s beach party-themed star-studded ball were entertained by Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, who gamely provided A-1 entertainment for Sir Elton’s privileged visitors.

Sir Elton John’s more than 600 guests enjoyed the luxurious party which was held in his lavish garden. The singer decorated the garden with palm trees and sand.

Aside from the entertainment and sumptuous food, Sir Elton’s guests also participated in an auction.

The White Tie and Tiara Ball is a yearly event that Ma href=”http://www.ejaf.com/Ourevents/WHITETIETIARA”>Sir Elton John throws to support his AIDS Foundation. All the proceeds of the ball were to go straight to the foundation which, since its inception 15 years ago, has benefited and helped over 150 million people. Last year, 2007, the ball was able to raise more than $12 million.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards after parties

The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards was held on a lovely Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. As much as celebrities work real hard to be recognized by a distinguished body, they also pretty well know how to party hard.

A number of Emmy Awards after parties are actually held each year. First stop is the Governors Ball. This year’s ball was made extra special to celebrate Emmy’s diamond anniversary at 60 years. A new venue was given by the academy and the Governors Ball was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It was certainly a night that drew elegance into the air, as the 147,500-square foot convention center was transformed into an intimate ballroom with a theme inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s 1958 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The venue followed a color scheme of black and Schiaparelli pink, the shade of Monroe’s dress in the musical number. The ballroom was filled with custom black drapes decked with dazzling gems. The company requested 30 floral designers to help make 650 arrangements of versillia roses, where 50,000 of which have been imported from Holland, Ecuador, and Colombia. Additionally, 312 diamond-shaped crystal-encrusted chandeliers were hung from the ceiling, completing the venue’s diamond-inspired theme. Guests who were present at the ball included Glenn Close, Alec Baldwin, Howie Mandel, Amy Poehler, Paul Giamatti, and Saturday Night Live Producer Lorne Michaels.

TV Guide sponsored another Emmy after party that was held at The Kress in Hollywood. The party had a Japanese-inspired theme where paper cranes hung from the ceiling and a large sake bar was found at the center of the place. Waitresses in red geisha costumes served cocktails and trays of chocolate. The Bravery and MGMT did some performances while DJ Samantha Ronson spun some rock music. Guests who attended the party were Lindsay Lohan, Sandra Oh, Joey Fatone, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Lauren Conrad, Chandra Wilson, Lisa Rinna, Tori Spelling, and Jamie Foxx.

HBO and Entertainment Tonight also sponsored Emmy after parties. HBO had a blue-green Brazilian theme to celebrate the 26 trophies that they got. Guests included Kevin Spacey, Tim Robbins, Adrien Grenier, Kate Walsh, John Voight, Laura Dern, and Susan Sarandon. The bash hosted by Entertainment Tonight was also flocked by celebrities including Paula Abdul, Nicolette Sheridan, Amy Poehler, Jamie Kennedy, and Tichina Arnold.

2008 MTV VMA after party

In the wake of an MTV Video Music Awards show, all the madness usually spills over to the parties thereafter. The VMA held on Sept.7, 2008 was no exception.

Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood blazed in utmost star wattage for “Idols and Icons,” a VMA after party sponsored by In Touch Weekly.

Stars studded most corners of this party central, while Leona Lewis and Good Charlotte took turns on the stage. Samantha Ronson spun ditties on the deck downstairs, while rumored paramour Lindsay Lohan looked on, chugging Red Bull. LiLo later freaked out when somebody spilled a drink on her. In her panic, she barged into the men’s bathroom.

Christina Aguilera had a more sedate night watching crooner Leona Lewis. Good Charlotte’s set was comparatively a ruckus. The front row of their audience included Mischa Barton and Benji Madden’s flame, Paris Hilton, who captured the performance on cam. The vocalists later staged a little “drinking contest” for the crowd. Paris also chatted with Demi Moore and sister Nicky Hilton.

Olympics Golden Boy Michael Phelps was even present. So were a shirtless Kid Rock and handsome Ryan Philippe. Katy Perry was another prized guest, though she didn’t kiss girls that night. Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and David and Victoria Beckham kept the British Invasion alive there.

Hyde was the place to be after Château Marmont. At another side of town, JoJo, Young Jeezy, Keri Hilson and Warren G attended Pepsi’s post-VMA party at Avalon.

Pepsi, as well as Nikon, also sponsored the Official 2008 VMA After Party, which happened right after the show. It was held at the Paramount Backlot, just a stone’s throw from Studio 16, where the ceremonies transpired. By default then, its party circuit included the shows’ hot attendees, like Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge from The Hills, Gym Class Heroes, Travis Barker, Paramore, Jonah Hill, Kobe Bryant and Sid Wilson of Slipknot. British imports The Ting Tings gave a performance of their tune “Shut Up and Let Me Go.”

Of all the revelers that night, the happiest could be Britney Spears, who took home the Video of the Year moon man for “Piece of Me,” which was directed by Wayne Isham.

2008 BET Awards after party

If the guest list was any indication, all roads led to Steve Rifkind’s plush cribs after the 2008 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award ceremonies last June 24. Rifkind, founder of Loud Records, teamed up with James Cruz of SRC to whip up the after party, held in honor of BET’s Executive Vice President for Music Programming, Stephen Hill.

Rifkind’s mansion is seated atop the high ledges of Mulholland Drive. Just for the event, he turned his basement into a virtual club, a DJ on the deck coaxing droves into the dancefloor. Revelers lounged on chairs by the poolside, which featured a well-stocked bar and heating lamps aplenty. Guests sipped on vodka.

Aside from guest-of-honor Hill, partygoers included musical dignitaries Diddy, Jermaine Dupri, Quincy Jones, Nelly, and Queen Latifah. New chart-toppers Flo Rida and Lil Wayne were also in attendance, schmoozing with older favorites like Ashanti, Lil Kim, and Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams. Ryan Philippe also showed up, and so did fellow actors Taraji Henson and Sanaa Lathan. Fergie was also in the same house with Weezy, Andre Harrell, Big Boi, Debra Lee, Melissa Ford, A.J. Calloway, Pretty Ricky, Wale, Slim Thug, Jill Marie Jones, QD3, Golden Brooks, David Banner, Play n Skillz, J Holiday, Jimmy Henchman and Lisa Raye.

Down the valley, Interscope held its own with a celebration honoring Midi Mafia. Held at Hollywood’s hip Cabana Club, the after party was hosted by Polow Da Don and Soulja Boy among others. Keri Hilson flaunted her set of pipes for the party, to go with DJ J-Nice and Greg Street’s choice cuts.

Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium was a party in itself. As the site of the 2008 BET Awards, the auditorium saw eye-popping musical performances, beginning with Usher and proceeding with Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, Nelly, Marvin Sapp and T-Pain. Erstwhile girl bands En Vogue, SWV and TLC even surprised the audience with their reunion numbers with Alicia Keys.

BET Awards culminated with Kanye West clinching awards for best male hip-hop artist and the best collaboration for “Good Life” with T-Pain. Brown stepped up to receive the best male R&B artist trophy; Keys was his female counterpart. Missy Elliott was awarded best female hip-hop artist while The Dream took home the Best New Artist award.
