Musicians Call for Haiti

The aftermath of the massive earthquake in Haiti had left musicians like Chris Martin, Mark Hoppus and Kele Okereke urging for additional donations from their fans to support the devastated victims of the calamity.

The earthquake that hit Haiti had caused a massive blow to its capital city as well as to its people. Apart from causing great damage to Port-au-Prince, the earthquake has also left an estimated 170,000 casualties. The good news is that there are around 2 to 3 million people who have survived the January 12 (21:53 UTC) tragedy. However, these people are now in need of great help to recover from the incident.

In order to generate donations, Beyoncé Knowles and her little sister Solange Knowles had decided to spin some records to fuel more proceeds to fund the good cause. The booty-shaking Knowles decided to hit the turntables with her sister and organized one of the year’s most eventful star-studded parties to benefit Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Organization. The “Party: Relief for Haiti Edition” was held last Tuesday, January 26 at the Eldridge in New York.

The bootylicious singer decided to turn the spotlight on her sister Solange, who took her turn to shake things up at the dance floor. Apart from her sister Beyoncé, Solange’s brother-in-law Jay-Z as well as other renowned musicians such as Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams also showed up to lend their support.

Aside from the Victims of Haiti and Solange, the indie rock group of Montreal also served as one of the highlights at the gig. They were able to catch the crowd’s attention by performing one of the greatest hits produced by the legendary Jackson 5, the single entitled, “I want You Back.”

All in all, the fundraising event was a success. It was a relief to showcase some of Hollywood’s hidden talents and expose them for a greater cause.

The Bacardi Blast is Back in India!

Bacardi is good at keeping promises. The popular spirits brand promised to bring a never-heard-before musical experience to India by reviving the country’s largest and wildest music festival known as the Bacardi Blast. The musical festivities took place on December 19 and 20 at the Panjim Gymkhana at Panjim Goa.

The Blast was not just a concert, but an eight-hour musical experience. Senses were stimulated by a mix of music, visual graphics, sound effects, and a hi-definition LED display on-stage. The entertainment was expounded upon by the availability of several Bacardi beverages being churned out at bars, pool tables, face painters and tattoo artists.

The event was distinguished by a large illuminated balloon that rested 100 feet in the sky, enabling Blast-goers to locate the venue easily. The Blast brought in about 8,000 partiers who were set to enjoy acts from Chicane, Faithless All Star’s Sister Bliss with Sudha on percussion, DJs from the Ministry of Sound, London including DJ Ivan, and many others. There were also live musical performances from B.L.O.T. (Basic Love of Things) and Lost Stories, to name a few.

Arvind Krishnan of Bacardi Martini India Limited boasts that the festival was back and better than ever. The Blast was positioned as the perfect way to kick start the New Year by bringing together the best international acts in the dance and music space as a celebration.

2009 MTV VMAs

Winners and losers alike plied the boulevards towards New York City’s happening nightspots following the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Musicians, new and old, interrupted in their acceptance speeches or not, kept the fun all night last September 13, 2009.

Probably expecting the scene would match her hedonistic songs, the industry’s biggest names converged at Lady GaGa’s afterparty at Avenue. The gathering, thrown by her record label Interscope, lured everyone from Nicky Hilton to Perez Hilton.

GaGa’s party nature easily revealed itself when she arrived at the celebration looking like a bride. Wearing Jean Paul Gaultier threads and a Minnie Mouse-inspired hat, she was reportedly in the seventh of costume changes that included head-to-toe laces, blood-soaked leotards, and birds’ nests.

GaGa departed from the ceremonies at Radio City as Best New Artist. In addition to the said award, her eccentric music video for “Paparazzi” won the VMAs for art direction and special effects.

VMA host Russell Brand celebrated with GaGa after the show. At the party, he was seen cozying up to Katy Perry, who was accompanied by Markus Molinari. Perry’s fellow hit-makers Akon, Keri Hilson, Polow Da Don and Soulja Boy Tell’em were also in attendance. Other partygoers included Kristin Cavallari, Melody Thornton, Teyana Taylor and Julie Henderson. Lorenzo Martone and Jon Gosselin came, too, sans their lovers Marc Jacobs and Hailey Glassman.

Tequila and champagne loosened the Interscope party atmosphere. Managing to catch the merriment was Justin Timberlake, who came from Jay-Z’s party at 1 Oak in the meatpacking district.

Sighted with him at 1 Oak were VIPs like Rihanna, Djimon Hounsou, Kimora Lee Simmons and Cassie. Jay-Z had thrown another party at his club 40/40.

Not to be outdone, Warner Music Group staged its own merrymaking, spotlighting DJ D-Nice on the sets. Abe & Arthur’s was the site; Green Day, DJ Premier, Sean Garrett, Maino and Gabrielle Union came.

Diddy was present at the GaGa, Jay-Z and WMG affairs. His ex-flame Jennifer Lopez dined with husband Marc Anthony at Waverly Inn, where Kim Kardashian was also dining. In the meantime, Pete Wentz threw an afterparty at the bar Angels & Kings, which he owns.

Ross School hosts star-studded benefit concert

The Ross School, founded by education innovator Courtney Sale Ross, hosted its annual “Social@Ross,” with a percentage of the proceeds going to scholarships for lower-income students. The Ross School, located in the Hamptons in New York, is an exclusive school known for its eclectic curriculum and advanced educational methodologies. Tuition to the school is quite high, but Courtney Sale Ross has set aside a large percentage of admissions for students whose families could not afford the school.

This year’s Social@Ross had a musical lineup to die for. Headliners included Piano Man Billy Joel, funky soul-master Prince, college favorite The Dave Matthews Band, folk legend James Taylor, and classic rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The series of five concerts went for a whopping $15,000 for all five shows, or $3,000 a show. The 1,500 tickets for each show were completely sold out.

Admission included superb seating, gourmet meals prepared by top chefs, and an intimate atmosphere where concertgoers could mingle with the music stars and celebrities. The evening was sponsored by Cierge, the high-profile executive social networking group.

The evening redefined elegance and sophistication. On the menu were truffle tarlets, flowing champagne, the finest liquor, sushi, salmon, Asian salads, and more traditional fare such as Pop Burgers and hot dogs. Guests even received martini glasses filled with gourmet jelly beans

On hand was school founder Courtney Sale Ross and a long list of A-list celebrities. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jon Bon Jovi, Londell McMillan, Lizzie Grubman, Christie Brinkley, and L.A. Reid were just a few of the big names who showed up at the concerts. Also attending were Edie Falco, Aidia Turturro, Jay-Z, Ron Burkle, Steve Bing, and Marci Klein. Mo Osten was spotted sitting and chatting with Courtney Sale Ross.

On site, concert-goers enjoyed perfect seating in sling back beach chairs, without a bad seat in the house. Tables were covered with black linen and decorated with candles and purple flowers and pillows. But all this luxury was set up for a great cause: ensuring that some of the country’s best and brightest students got a shot at attending the Ross School. For Courtney Sale Ross, it’s not money that should determine your educational goals, but only imagination and discipline.

Andrei Melnichenko welcomes J Lo in 1 million euros private concert

Russian billionaire Andrei Melnichenko made his fortune by founding MDM Bank, Russia’s leading provider of banking services. He is also known to throw lavish parties and give extraordinarily expensive gifts to his wife, Serbian model and former singer, Aleksandra Nikolic. After shelling out £2 million for Christina Aguilera to sing during their 2005 wedding, the billionaire spent £1 million for Jennifer Lopez to perform at his wife’s 30th birthday for 40 minutes. It was a joint birthday celebration since the billionaire also recently turned a year older.

On April 21, 2007, Andre Melnichenko and his wife welcomed 60 guests, mostly Serbian and Russian tycoons and billionaires, to their “strictly private” birthday bash. Cabaret acts and circus performers entertained the guests before J.Lo hugged the spotlight with her electrifying renditions of such hits as If You Had My Love and Jenny From the Block. The singer-actress is a favorite of the couple so her presence definitely made the celebration even more memorable.

When the singer was personally contacted by the Russian billionaire, Lopez didn’t have second thoughts and immediately accepted the offer.

Lopez and her entourage, including husband Marc Anthony, were flown in from the United States and billeted at the plush Mandarin Oriental in London. Melnichenko didn’t leave any stones unturned when he spent approximately $800,000 for Lopez and company’s transportation and hotel expenses.

Aside from J.Lo’s private concert, guests dined luxuriously in a specially-constructed nightclub under a marquee. Held in Melnichenko’s 27-acre estate in Surrey, England, the birthday bash was one of the many extravagant pop star-headlined parties for billionaires in the British community.

Once again, the 36-year old baby-faced Russian billionaire proved just how dedicated he is to his wife of 3 years. And he certainly knows how to lavishly impress a woman!
