Musicians Call for Haiti
The aftermath of the massive earthquake in Haiti had left musicians like Chris Martin, Mark Hoppus and Kele Okereke urging for additional donations from their fans to support the devastated victims of the calamity.
The earthquake that hit Haiti had caused a massive blow to its capital city as well as to its people. Apart from causing great damage to Port-au-Prince, the earthquake has also left an estimated 170,000 casualties. The good news is that there are around 2 to 3 million people who have survived the January 12 (21:53 UTC) tragedy. However, these people are now in need of great help to recover from the incident.
In order to generate donations, Beyoncé Knowles and her little sister Solange Knowles had decided to spin some records to fuel more proceeds to fund the good cause. The booty-shaking Knowles decided to hit the turntables with her sister and organized one of the year’s most eventful star-studded parties to benefit Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Organization. The “Party: Relief for Haiti Edition” was held last Tuesday, January 26 at the Eldridge in New York.
The bootylicious singer decided to turn the spotlight on her sister Solange, who took her turn to shake things up at the dance floor. Apart from her sister Beyoncé, Solange’s brother-in-law Jay-Z as well as other renowned musicians such as Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams also showed up to lend their support.
Aside from the Victims of Haiti and Solange, the indie rock group of Montreal also served as one of the highlights at the gig. They were able to catch the crowd’s attention by performing one of the greatest hits produced by the legendary Jackson 5, the single entitled, “I want You Back.”
All in all, the fundraising event was a success. It was a relief to showcase some of Hollywood’s hidden talents and expose them for a greater cause.
