The Party Highlights for 2009

The year 2009 has been a great one for most people. A few even threw a couple of shindigs as proof. One of the biggest parties for this year was the Hamptons Housewarming weekend party. Although it’s no longer new to most people, since it has become customary that something big is expected to come out from the Hamptons each year, each party at the Hamptons has never failed to impress.

This year’s Hamptons Housewarming event for once has been something most people won’t find easy to forget since it was held in several places including the Montauk Yacht Club, the Surf Lodge, and the East Hampton club Lily Pond to name a few. And as typical Hamptons parties go, the guest list for this certain event included several of the entertainment industry’s biggest names such as Jessica and Jerry Seinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Legend, Sean Avery, Stavros Niarchos, and more.

Apart from the Hamptons Housewarming event, the Monaco Mixer was also one of the highlights of 2009. The Monaco Grand Prix and royal gala dinner, which was all about F1 racing of course was a mixture of all things fast and glamorous. The event wouldn’t have been complete without the presence of Jenson Button, the formula one winner for 2009. Aside from him, Prince Albert and his girlfriend Charlene Wittstock as well as Princess Beatrice, James Blunt and Peaches Geldof were also spotted at the event.

In addition to the Hamptons Housewarming event and the adrenaline infused F1 mixer in Monaco, the Celebrity Soccer Six charity tournament also topped this year’s biggest events; everyone loves British football after all. The so-called British “Balling” had taken place in Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium in London. Enthusiasts of the game including the Babyshambles team, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe were seen balling out in the event and so were Michelle Heaton, and Bianca Gascoigne.

And of course what football event would be complete without the sport’s royal couple, Victoria and David Beckham?

Inside Celebrity Halloween Parties in 2009

Hilton hotel heiress Paris Hilton sure seems to be on top of things as far as relationships are concerned, as she turned up with boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, who wore the same costume she did, at Heidi Klum’s exclusive Halloween Party. Hilton and Reinhardt wore white tulle dresses with white tops and fairy wings.

Apparently, this was not the only time Reinhardt copied his girlfriend’s costume as the night before, the The Simple Life star held her own Halloween party dressed as The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy, and Reinhardt wore the same outfit.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Hiltons, including Paris’ mom Kathy, who dressed up as a police officer, and her dad Rick, who went out as Hugh Hefner in a robe and slippers, partied at PURE nightclub. Paris’ sister Nicky Hilton was also at the club dressed as Breakfast at Tiffany’s star Audrey Hepburn, complete with Christian Louboutin pumps and a Chanel handbag.

However, Reinhardt and Hilton were not the only couple who had matching costumes at Klum’s party. The hosts of the party, Heidi and her husband Seal wore all black as they were dressed as crows with long beaks and feathers. Since their faces were also painted black, they were nearly unrecognizable. Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, and DJ Luke Worrall, her fiancé, went as bacon and eggs, while Rick Fox and Eliza Dushku were gangster vampires.

And Sacha Baron Cohen, the man behind the famous characters Ali G/Borat/Bruno, went to the party wearing a Hillary Clinton mask, while trying to keep a low profile through the evening.

Other stars seen at the party were Jessica Alba who dressed as Dora the Explorer and her husband Cash Warren was Diego. Queen Latifah was also there, wearing a Japanese sensei costume.

Courtney Sale Ross, founder of the innovative Ross School, hosted a charity ball in East Hampton to benefit the school. Celebrities were everywhere to enjoy the 2009 Starlight Ball, an evening of music, comedy, and haute cuisine to raise money for the Steven J. Ross Scholarship fund. The scholarship, named for the media mogul and late husband of Courtney Sale Ross, allows 25% of the students attending the Ross School to receive sorely needed financial aid.

This year, the 2009 Starlight Ball Honoree was none other than Martha Stewart, the domestic superstar and author who has served as an inspiration for Courtney Sale Ross. “Martha’s accomplishments have been an inspiration to so many of us. She leads people through a process of creative discovery that is keenly characteristic of her work as an educator,” said Courtney Sale Ross. “She has been a dear friend and an on-going supporter of our school for many years and we are thrilled to pay her tribute.”

Stars that entertained the crowd included Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live, music stars James Ingram and Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley. Two years ago, Brinkley launched a scholarship of her own to support deserving students who wish to attend the Ross School. “Right now, with today’s economy, the scholarship fund is more important than ever. The Ross School has always had a great, very diverse group of students, despite its reputation of being a rich kid’s school, it is not. It is really, really important that we come out to support the school,” Christie Brinkley said.

The night’s events were MC’d by Generation X writer Jay McInerney and his wife Anne Hearst McInerney, who is a Ross student parent. The stars of the upcoming film “Trophy Kids”, including Tania Raymonde, Ryan Egghold, Tahyna Tozzi, David Gallagher, and Nathan Lee Graham were on hand as well.

Ross School’s Sixth Annual “Live at Club Starlight” is dedicated to raising funds for the School’s programs and for the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund, which has been in place since the School’s founding in 1991. Created by Courtney and Steven J. Ross, the Steven J. Ross Scholarship fund ensures that deserving children have the opportunity to receive an outstanding, world-class education at the Ross School. Every year, the Starlight Ball celebrates its students with special celebrity performances, student ambassadors, and live and silent auction items donated by committed parents, trustees, friends, and local and national organizations.

Alexander Wang Afterparty

The party capping Alexander Wang’s show surfaced as one of New York Fashion Week’s best ever. Gotham’s wildest party animals even likened the merriment to those by Marc Jacobs, only that the latter never held his in a gasoline station.

MAC and Katie Grand engineered the September 12, 2009 party at the Mobil gas station next to Chelsea’s Milk Studios. Come party night, eager revelers swarmed towards 10th Avenue at 15th Street for the elusive ticket. It never came for many non-celebrities, of course.

Even with the gas tanks turned off by Mobil attendants, the aura within this hallowed expanse was one of paranoia. At one point, the DJ had to remind chain-smokers that it was, after all, a gas station. But the edginess was part of the explosive allure.

More than the makeshift bars serving Belvedere vodkas, revelers loved the station’s paid-for-everyone convenience store. Butterfingers and junk foods galore beckoned to the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Jared Leto, Mischa Barton, Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson. Pixie Geldof raided shelves of Nerds, as Cup Noodles started going into Alice Dellal’s bag.

Veuve Clicquot champagnes stood side by side with gas station staples like Gatorade and Orbitz gums. Baited with Pop cheeseburgers and fries were names such as Anouck Lepere, Devon Aoki, Kristian Laliberte, Amanda Leigh Dunn, Zev Norotsky, Isabeli Fontana, Trish Goff, Tallulah Harlech, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Theodora Richards, Will Blondelle, Jamie Burke and Lykke Li.

Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction was seen negotiating through the port-a-potties to catch the night’s main event: a Courtney Love mini-concert. In between expletives and puffs of fags, the onetime Hole front-woman revisited hits like “Malibu” and covered songs like “Bette Davis Eyes.” Rapper Santigold likewise performed.

BFFs Wang and Erin Wasson took to the stage in the small hours, when the DJ initiated a titanic dance party.

Latin Grammy’s heat up

Last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Latino and Latina stars came out for the 10th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards.

The biggest night in Latin music was marked by performers, distinguished winners and impressive special effects.

According to Grammy.com, one poignant moment came when Enrique Iglesias introduced 2009 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Juan Gabriel, describing him as a “true superstar in a time with very few superstars.” Iglesias then entire arena into a singing and dancing frenzy.

Lady GaGa still thinks it’s Halloween

Twenty-three-year-old singer Lady GaGa, not well-known for her conservative attire or opinions, drew stares Monday night with a hat that resembled a cocoon at the the Accessories Council Excellence Awards in New York.

The black lace veil accompanied a rather interesting outfit that included a pink bra over a long sleeved black shirt, shiny hotpants, fishnet stockings and, of course, heels.

Read more and see pictures here.

Needless to say, Lady GaGa was not a recipient of an accessory award this year.

BACARDI sponsors historic concerts

Some of the biggest names in music gathered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts last week, Oct. 29 and 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The two concerts included performances by U2, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Simon and Garfunkel, Metallica, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Crosby, Stills Nash and Friends, Eric Clapton and many more.

BACARDI, one of the most internationally recognized rums and official spirit sponsor of the concert, showed its support for the program by asking the performers to sign commemorative bottles of BACARDI Reserva Limitada rum, an ultra-premium rum aged between 10 and 16 years.

Twenty-five bottles were auctioned off for charity in recognition of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary. Proceeds from the auction went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum.

In honor of these groundbreaking concerts, BACARDI has created a signature cocktail, the BACARDI “Center Stage,” a delicious mix of BACARDI® Superior Rum, fresh lime juice, strawberry puree, cranberry juice and citrus soda. To provide additional support, BACARDI will sponsor events, including the official after party surrounding the 25th Anniversary celebration.

“BACARDI has a long-standing connection and dedication to music,” said Billy Melnyk, senior experiential marketing manager, BACARDI rums. “This unique collaboration of some of music’s greatest legends is an experience that embodies the spirit of BACARDI and one we are proud to be a part of.”

UNICEF Next Generation launch party

Though her father has stepped down from the presidency, Jenna Bush Hager has not toned down her goal ofchanging the world. The former U.S. First Daughter headlined the bash launching her volunteer team with UNICEF on July 24, 2009.

UNICEF Next Generation is a group that works to improve the plight of impoverished children around the world. Hager, who is a Young Leadership Ambassador, chairs the nonprofit.

Held at hip nightspot Gates, the party doubled as a fundraiser for the group’s inaugural initiative, which required $175,000. By the wee hours of July 25, the event had raised around $45,000.

For their first project, the group is eyeing Guatemala’s malnourished children. This fall, the group will fly there to enact its initiative Project Sprinkles.

Project Sprinkles involves the distribution of the eponymous sachets to Guatemalan children. Sprinkles, which look like pouches of sugar, contain the daily recommended amount of micronutrients for children.

Gate’s partygoers had their fill of nutrition through tasty cupcakes called Crumbs. They feasted on Sprinkle Spritzers and cocktails from Grey Goose, while gyrating to DJ Josh Madden’s energetic tunes.

Onstage, Next Generation members raffled gift certificates to plush eateries at the Hotel Griffou, Waverly Inn, and Kingswood. Members also sold UNICEF Inspired Gifts, including a toolkit called School-in-a-Box. The kit offers tools for a provisional school for more than 40 children anytime, anywhere.

US Fund for UNICEF President Caryl Stern partied with the Next Generation youngsters. Members Lauren and Barbara Bush were standouts at the party, along with sisters Maggie and Jessica Betts.

Next Generation is also composed of Danielle Abraham, Mia Baxter, Gretchen Bylow, Clementine Crawford, Arielle Diskin, Megan Ferguson, Randolph Frazier II, Jillian Gumbel, Gillian Hearst Simonds, Louise Hooff, Geoff Johnston, Anika Kreider, David Lauren, Brian Lee, Melissa McGhie, Gloria Marie Moncrief, Purvi Padia, Caroline Polisi, Meredith Ross, Jason Rotter, Maya Samuelsson, Anna Schwab, Krystal Shanahan, Ashley Irvin Weaver, Candice Wolfswinkel and Brooke Worthington.
