60th Primetime Emmy Awards after parties
The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards was held on a lovely Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. As much as celebrities work real hard to be recognized by a distinguished body, they also pretty well know how to party hard.
A number of Emmy Awards after parties are actually held each year. First stop is the Governors Ball. This year’s ball was made extra special to celebrate Emmy’s diamond anniversary at 60 years. A new venue was given by the academy and the Governors Ball was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It was certainly a night that drew elegance into the air, as the 147,500-square foot convention center was transformed into an intimate ballroom with a theme inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s 1958 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The venue followed a color scheme of black and Schiaparelli pink, the shade of Monroe’s dress in the musical number. The ballroom was filled with custom black drapes decked with dazzling gems. The company requested 30 floral designers to help make 650 arrangements of versillia roses, where 50,000 of which have been imported from Holland, Ecuador, and Colombia. Additionally, 312 diamond-shaped crystal-encrusted chandeliers were hung from the ceiling, completing the venue’s diamond-inspired theme. Guests who were present at the ball included Glenn Close, Alec Baldwin, Howie Mandel, Amy Poehler, Paul Giamatti, and Saturday Night Live Producer Lorne Michaels.
TV Guide sponsored another Emmy after party that was held at The Kress in Hollywood. The party had a Japanese-inspired theme where paper cranes hung from the ceiling and a large sake bar was found at the center of the place. Waitresses in red geisha costumes served cocktails and trays of chocolate. The Bravery and MGMT did some performances while DJ Samantha Ronson spun some rock music. Guests who attended the party were Lindsay Lohan, Sandra Oh, Joey Fatone, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Lauren Conrad, Chandra Wilson, Lisa Rinna, Tori Spelling, and Jamie Foxx.
HBO and Entertainment Tonight also sponsored Emmy after parties. HBO had a blue-green Brazilian theme to celebrate the 26 trophies that they got. Guests included Kevin Spacey, Tim Robbins, Adrien Grenier, Kate Walsh, John Voight, Laura Dern, and Susan Sarandon. The bash hosted by Entertainment Tonight was also flocked by celebrities including Paula Abdul, Nicolette Sheridan, Amy Poehler, Jamie Kennedy, and Tichina Arnold.
